What’s So New About Another Year?

Tradition in Motion

  Is it right for me to ask to roll the calendar back a few months? Who am I to ask for extra   time to prepare for the Holidays…for Christmas? And what exactly does preparing really mean?

Grateful Ingredients…

As we approach Thanksgiving, we are reminded to take some time and give thanks for the many blessings we have enjoyed and witnessed throughout the year. We observe a transformation during the fall. Deep, rich colors create a picturesque canvas…shades of red, orange, yellow and rust. Each tree presents its own contribution of nature…to the scene. And right in the midst of it all a cool fall breeze will come along and brush against my skin.

Beyond the Breasts…


October is recognized as Breast Cancer Awareness Month. And, October 6 marks my 17th year as a Breast Cancer Survivor.

It is estimated that over 192,000 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer this year and it is possible that over 40,000 women will not survive. There are a number of statistics I could site, however I will focus this column on moments that will hopefully make it easy to move beyond the breasts.

Growing and Aging

Growing into this space of being “A Certain Age” is not quite what I expected. To be honest, I am not sure what I expected. There is more to growing and aging than I remember hearing from older women when I was younger.

Blank Sheet

In grade school I remember receiving a blank sheet of paper from my teacher with instructions to write my name at the top of the page. Perhaps we were about to learn a new set of vocabulary words or copy down a homework assignment. I don't remember, however that classroom scene has been on my mind lately and I have really begun to think about that blank sheet of paper in relation to my life.

Common Threads of Motherhood

Those who serve in the role of a mother on any level know firsthand it
can be more than a notion. That goes for those who have become mothers
by way of giving birth or those who have stepped in where needed.
